 A SENATE RESOLUTION TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE EDGEFIELD'S STROM THURMOND HIGH
 SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM AND ITS COACH, LEE SAWYER, FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING WIN FOR
 THE STATE AAA CHAMPIONSHIP ON DECEMBER 3, 2005, AND WISH THEM ALL THE BEST IN
 FUTURE SEASONS.

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE EDGEFIELD'S STROM THURMOND HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM AND ITS COACH, LEE SAWYER, FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING WIN FOR THE STATE AAA CHAMPIONSHIP ON DECEMBER 3, 2005, AND WISH THEM ALL THE BEST IN FUTURE SEASONS.

Whereas, Edgefield's Strom Thurmond High School Rebel football team capped an incredible 2005 season by winning the State AAA Championship title; and

Whereas, Clinton High School proved no match for the Rebels, as Strom Thurmond dominated the runner-up with a final score of 21-3; and

Whereas, Strom Thurmond finished its championship season with an overall record of 14-1, defeating North Augusta High School, Batesburg-Leesville High School, Laney High School, and Silver Bluff High School in regular season play; and

Whereas, the Rebels also celebrated their second-straight undefeated Region V-AAA Championship after sweeping opponents Chapin High School, Brookland Cayce High School, Airport High School, Dreher High School, and Midland Valley High School; and

Whereas, the team was led by 22 seniors who all shared in the honor of being named State Champions in their final year playing high school football; and

Whereas, Head Coach Lee Sawyer and his assistant coaches showed a remarkable amount of confidence in the players and their individual and collective abilities, continually pushing them to perform at the highest level possible; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate take great pride in commending the young men of Edgefield's Strom Thurmond football team for their tireless effort and tremendous persistence in an outstanding season and recognize them as model student athletes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and recognize Edgefield's Strom Thurmond High School football team and its coach, Lee Sawyer, for their outstanding win for the State AAA Championship on December 3, 2005, and wish them all the best in future seasons.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Strom Thurmond High School football coach, Lee Sawyer.
