 A SENATE RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE RIGHT HONOURABLE REV. DR. IAN RICHARD KYLE
 PAISLEY, M.P. FOR HIS HARD WORK AND DEDICATED SERVICE IN ORGANIZING THE FREE
 PRESBYTERIANS CHURCH AND RECOGNIZING HIS FAITHFUL BOND TO THE STATE OF SOUTH
 CAROLINA.

COMMENDING THE RIGHT HONOURABLE REV. DR. IAN RICHARD KYLE PAISLEY, M.P. FOR HIS HARD WORK AND DEDICATED SERVICE IN ORGANIZING THE FREE PRESBYTERIANS CHURCH AND RECOGNIZING HIS FAITHFUL BOND TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Reverend Doctor Ian Richard Kyle Paisley, MP was ordained to the ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in August 1946 and was immediately called to the pulpit of the Martyr's Memorial Free Presbyterian Church of Belfast, Northern Ireland, wherein he has served continuously ever since; and

Whereas, in March 1951, Rev. Dr. Paisley aided the founding of the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster as a denomination committed to the maintenance and defense of the "the Faith once delivered to the Saints"; and

Whereas, his ecclesiastical career having spanned six decades during which Rev. Dr. Paisley has, by annual vote of the Presbytery, served constantly as the Moderator of the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster which denomination, under his provident stewardship, has grown to a communion of greater than one hundred congregations in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Canada, and the Untied States; and

Whereas, during his sixty years as a faithful minister of the Gospel, Rev. Dr. Paisley has moved to and fro across the globe, traveling to five continents, to spread the Good News and planting churches; and

Whereas, in 1977 the first Free Presbyterian Church in the United States of America was constituted in Greenville County, South Carolina, and that this congregation has, in due course, grown as a result of the diligent mediation and attentive guidance of Rev. Dr. Paisley and as a result the Free Presbyterian Church of North America has become an autonomous denomination comprised of twenty-three churches in Canada and the United States and missions throughout the Caribbean, South America, India, and Liberia; and

Whereas, n keeping with this spirit of unity and cooperation, Rev. Dr. Paisley joined with Dr. Bob Jones, Jr., of Greenville, South Carolina to establish the World Congress of Biblical Fundamentalists which has an extensive ministry across America and around the world; and

Whereas, the Rev. Dr. Paisley has not wearied of well-doing, but has taken an active role in the political life of his people, having been elected to the Northern Ireland Parliament at Stormont in 1970, and the Northern Ireland Convention in 1973, and has founded the Ulster Democratic Unionist Party which has been consistently chosen by the voters of the Province as the dominant political party; and

Whereas, Rev. Dr. Paisley's leadership has also been recognized by the citizens of his country by repeatedly electing him for over thirty years to the British Parliament at Westminster and by electing him to four terms as a member of the European Parliament at Strasbourg, France; and

Whereas, in 2005, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith appointed him to the Privy Council. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, hereby commend and acclaim the hard work and devoted labors of the Right Honorable Reverend Doctor Ian Richard Kyle Paisley, M.P., which he has invested in the nurturing of the Free Presbyterian Church both here in South Carolina and throughout the world and in grateful recognition of his faithful and enduring bond to South Carolina.

Now therefore be it finally resolved, that a copy of this resolution shall be conveyed into the hands of the Right Honorable Reverend Doctor Ian Richard Kyle Paisley, M.P.
