VERSIONS OF THIS BILL

5/2/2006

H. 5078

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CAROLE ELIZABETH WESTBURY WAGERS FOR HER TREMENDOUS LOVE FOR AND COMMITMENT TO THE CHILDREN OF DORCHESTER COUNTY AND TO COMMEND HER FOR SERVING AS A MODEL CITIZEN OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to honor those South Carolinians who give tirelessly of themselves in shaping the lives of our young people; and

Whereas, born on August 24, 1942, to Shealy Tilmon Westbury and Marie Elizabeth Westbury, Mrs. Wagers has dedicated all of her life to helping others. After graduating from St. George High School and working for a short time at Carolina Girls Wear, she became a caretaker for her neighbor's children and soon found that she could make money while staying at home and working in the childcare business; and

Whereas, owning and operating a daycare in Dorchester County for the past thirty-four years, Carole Wagers puts in fifty-five hour weeks in care of children whose parents work outside the home; and

Whereas, despite suffering from scoliosis, Mrs. Wagers is constantly affectionate with the children she keeps, picking up and hugging children even when it is physically taxing to do so; and

Whereas, a friend and "second parent" to many of the children, Mrs. Wagers has a true gift for responding to the needs of children in her care, often serving as a therapist, doctor, mind reader, teacher, and guidance counselor; and

Whereas, mindful of state and local regulations regarding childcare, Mrs. Wagers and her husband, Walter S. Wagers, have spent a great deal of money and time assuring Mrs. Wagers' facility meets safety and health standards; and

Whereas, in her thirty-four year career, Mrs. Wagers has touched the lives of all with whom she has come in contact, and her patient attitude and generous heart make her a special woman whose contributions will not soon be forgotten. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives recognize and honor Carole Elizabeth Westbury Wagers for her tremendous love for and commitment to the children of Dorchester County and commend her for serving as a model citizen of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Carole Elizabeth Westbury Wagers.
