A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME BRIDGE NUMBER 394001100201 LOCATED ALONG SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 11 IN PICKENS COUNTY "CLIFTON RANDALL 'RANDY' JONES BRIDGE" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS BRIDGE THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "CLIFTON RANDALL 'RANDY' JONES BRIDGE".

Whereas, Lance Corporal Clifton Randall "Randy" Jones was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton K. Jones of Pickens, South Carolina; and

Whereas, he was a 1965 graduate of Pickens High School where he played football; and

Whereas, prior to enlisting in the Marines, he was employed at Slater Manufacturing Company in Marietta, South Carolina; and

Whereas, Lance Corporal Jones enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 1966 and began serving in the Vietnam War in September 1967 with the Third Platoon Company K of the 26th Marine Corps; and

Whereas, he gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of his country on January 21, 1967, when he was killed during combat in the vicinity of Quang-Tri Province, Vietnam; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to pay tribute to his heroism and bravery by naming a bridge in Pickens County in his honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, request that the Department of Transportation name bridge number 394001100201 located along South Carolina Highway 11 in Pickens County "Clifton Randall 'Randy' Jones Bridge" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this bridge that contain the words "Clifton Randall 'Randy' Jones Bridge".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
