 CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF MRS. ANNIE MAE KINSEY, OF
 COLLETON COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY
 FRIENDS.

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF MRS. ANNIE MAE KINSEY, OF COLLETON COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Annie Mae Kinsey on February 18, 2007; and

Whereas, as Colleton County's first black council member and a pioneer for the county's black community, Mrs. Kinsey broke racial barriers and left a legacy of advancing minority rights; and

Whereas, at first appointed to the position of council member by Governor Richard Riley in 1981 to fill an unexpired term, she was subsequently elected to the office by Colleton County voters, again making history, along with one other candidate, when the two became Colleton County's first elected black council members; and

Whereas, upon taking the office of council member, she said, "I've been honest and have done my best in everything I've done...I want to prove myself worthy of the position I've received," and her constituents demonstrated their confidence in her integrity and performance by reelecting her to her council seat four times before she left office in 1998; and

Whereas, Mrs. Kinsey, born August 21, 1937, in Neyles, was graduated from high school in Walterboro and completed numerous enhancement courses during her career of public service, also using her considerable gifts in faithfully serving her church, Aimwell Presbyterian, for many years and in many capacities; and

Whereas, on February 18, 2007, God looked down on the earth and called one of his humble servants home, and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mrs. Annie Mae Kinsey, of Colleton County, and extend the deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. James Kinsey, her beloved husband of forty-nine years.
