 A HOUSE RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH
 CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF PHENIX ALLEN JENKINS OF
 JASPER COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY
 FRIENDS.

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF PHENIX ALLEN JENKINS OF JASPER COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Phenix Allen Jenkins of Jasper County on July 19, 2011; and

Whereas, born on August 21, 1940, to Allen and Smithie Jenkins of the Gillisonville Township in Jasper County, Phenix was the fourth of nine siblings. After graduating from high school in 1961, he moved to New York. That same year, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Mary Evelyn Terry of Grays; and

Whereas, a very lively character, Phenix loved to laugh and to make people laugh. This outgoing, giving man enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming, and on occasion playing his guitar; and

Whereas, as a man of close family ties and of faith, he attended Bible Way Church in Jamaica, New York, and the Effectual Open Door Bible Way Church in Ridgeland; and

Whereas, he retired from the construction industry after many years of dedicated service and was a member of Local 79, Mason Tenders Union. In addition to working in construction, he and his wife worked with the foster-care system in The Bronx, New York, nurturing several children placed in their care; and

Whereas, after he retired, Phenix returned home to Gillisonville and became very active with the Allen Busby Family Reunion Building Project. He was passionate about maintaining the Busby property; and

Whereas, Phenix Allen Jenkins leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Mary E. Jenkins; two sons, Michael and Christopher; three daughters, Brenda, Janice, and Kim; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Phenix Allen Jenkins of Jasper County and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Mary E. Jenkins for the family.
