 A HOUSE RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH
 CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF LIANE SKINNER HARMAN OF
 RICHLAND COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THEIR SINCEREST SYMPATHY TO HER LARGE AND
 LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF LIANE SKINNER HARMAN OF RICHLAND COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THEIR SINCEREST SYMPATHY TO HER LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Liane Skinner Harman at the age of eighty-one on March 6, 2013; and

Whereas, born in Columbia on September 14, 1931, she was the daughter of James Ernest and Leona Hixon Skinner, and she graduated from Dreher High School and attended Draughons Business College; and

Whereas, she married her beloved husband, the late James Charlton "Bobby" Harman on August 4, 1951, and together they reared six fine children: Carla Harman Hardee, Gloria Janece Frazier, Joanne Elizabeth Johnson, Lesa Gail Dietrich, Thomas William Harman, and James Charlton Harman, Jr.; and

Whereas, before her family began to grow, she worked for several years at General Motors Insurance Corporation, and then she worked part-time with Stanley Home Products, Kirby-Croft Florist, The State and Columbia Record newspapers, and Field Enterprises World Book Encyclopedia; and

Whereas, Liane Harman taught Sunday School at Eau Claire Baptist Church (ECBC) and was a founding Sunday School teacher at ECBC's satellite church, Belmont Baptist Church. She served as the Baptist Training Union Class president for many years and worked at Bible School; and

Whereas, with a desire to see the Republican Party established in South Carolina and to have two-party politics in the State become a reality, she and Bob worked very hard with James Edwards, Strom Thurmond, Floyd Spence, and Carroll Campbell; and

Whereas, she served as a Girl Scout leader at College Place United Methodist Church and was one of the first females to work actively with the Boy Scouts. In 1993, the Horry County Boy Scouts honored her with the Spark Plug Award; and

Whereas, after the death of her husband in 1979, she moved to Myrtle Beach where she worked with the Horry County Election Commission and Jungle Golf Miniature Golf until she retired and returned to Columbia in May 1999; and

Whereas, for ten years she worked at the South Carolina Department of Revenue and retired in 2009 to care for her aging mother; and

Whereas, her children graced her life with seventeen adoring grandchildren and three precious great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Liane Harman and for the example of sacrifice and kindness she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Liane Skinner Harman of Richland County, and extend their sincerest sympathy to her large and loving family and her many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to the family of Liane Skinner Harman.
