A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND THE CITIZENS OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO ALAN B. WHITEHOUSE, M. D., OF THE DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY OF THE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL, PreviousAUGUSTANext, GEORGIA, FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE MEDICAL PROFESSION.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note that Alan B. Whitehouse, M. D., an ears, nose, and throat specialist on the staff of University Hospital in PreviousAugustaNext, Georgia, has served the citizens of the CSRA with great distinction and consummate skill, employing all of the science, art, and craft of surgery he acquired during his education at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and his internship and residency at the Medical College of Georgia for the benefit of many residents of this State; and

Whereas, Dr. Whitehouse exemplifies the high calling of the medical profession, setting an example for all who enter into the path that leads to a career in medicine; and

Whereas, of particular interest to the members of the General Assembly is the surgery he performed on the grandson of our colleague, Rep. J. Roland Smith, a laryngotracheal reconstruction with autologous rib graft, the first such procedure performed at University Hospital, which has vastly improved this youngster's quality of life; and

Whereas, this one instance of the healing arts that has been brought home to us because it has affected one near and dear to one of our colleagues is typical of that which is in a day's work for this distinguished physician; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations that they might take time to recognize the skill of this practitioner of the healing arts whose efforts have improved the lives of so many. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and express their appreciation for the skills of Alan B. Whitehouse, M. D., of the Department of Surgery of University Hospital, PreviousAugusta, Georgia.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Whitehouse.
