A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR DR. GEORGE C. BRADLEY, OF PreviousAUGUSTANext, GEORGIA, FOR A LIFETIME OF SERVICE TO THE EDUCATION OF OUR NATION'S YOUTH, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM UPON BEING NAMED PRESIDENT OF PAINE UNIVERSITY IN 2007.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were pleased to learn that Dr. George C. Bradley, former executive vice president of Claflin University in Orangeburg from 2001 to 2007, was named president of Paine University in PreviousAugustaNext, Georgia; and

Whereas, a native of Florence, George Bradley graduated from Wilson High School, where he was named the Student of the Year in 1978, an early indication of his future successful career in education; and

Whereas, in 1982, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army after he earned a bachelor of science in early childhood development and mathematics and then a master of science in mathematics education in 1985, both from South Carolina State University, and a doctorate in higher education and statistical research in 1992 from Iowa State University; and

Whereas, in 1994, Dr. Bradley was named to Who's Who in American Education and to Outstanding Young Men of America, and he received management leadership training from Harvard University in 2003; and

Whereas, he has twenty-one years of experience teaching mathematics and research for the social sciences in several colleges and universities in conjunction with administration in higher education; and

Whereas, he has authored, and co-authored with his wife Dr. Tina Marshall-Bradley, numerous articles and books on education, notable ones of which focused on research of the disparities in achievement between African American and white students in South Carolina; and

Whereas, a member of the National Association of Colleges and University Business Officers and the American Council on Education, Dr. Bradley has served on the boards of the Columbia Urban League, the Orangeburg Chapter of the United Way, the Rotary Club of Orangeburg, and the South Carolina African American Summit Conference; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly express their gratitude to Dr. George C. Bradley for his commitment as a teacher, administrator, author, and researcher in the field of education for more than two decades. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Dr. George C. Bradley, of PreviousAugusta, Georgia, for a lifetime of service to the education of our nation's youth, and congratulate him upon being named president of Paine University in 2007.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. George C. Bradley.
