Whereas, the Honorable Fred Clarence Mack was born on September 1, 1940, in Elloree, South Carolina, the son of sharecroppers, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence (Ella Clara) Mack. He died on August 19, 1990; and

Whereas, not a stranger to work, throughout his life he held various jobs. These included working in the farming industry, construction jobs on what would become Cape Canaveral, Florida, as an operator with Utica Tool Company, and as a licensed agent with Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company; and

Whereas, in 1973, Mr. Fred C. Mack received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from South Carolina State College and began his career as an associate director of the former Orangeburg County Consumer Health Council; and

Whereas, in the early in 1970's, he served as an effective member of the Bowman School District Two Board of Trustees. In 1976, he was elected to the Orangeburg County Council, where he proudly served the citizens of Orangeburg County until his death; and

Whereas, he joined Antioch Baptist Church in Bowman at a young age and held various offices until his death. These offices included Sunday school superintendent, trustee, treasurer, and chairman of the deacon board; and

Whereas, Mr. Fred C. Mack was married to his wife Mildred for thirty-two years, and together they raised five children. He is survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper to recognize Mr. Fred Clarence Mack's many accomplishments by having a portion of United States Highway 178 in Orangeburg County named in his honor. Now, therefore,
