A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO DESIGNATE PreviousAUGUSTNext 13, 1994, AS "NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND OF SOUTH CAROLINA DAY."

Whereas, the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina was established in Spartanburg, South Carolina in July 1944; and

Whereas, the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina is the largest statewide organization of blind people in the United States; and

Whereas, the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina was founded to provide a sense of security, equality and opportunity, and an outlet for self expression for the blind; and

Whereas, the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina has fifteen hundred members in forty-two local chapters and three statewide divisions with seven facilities across the state; and

Whereas, the founders of the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina, who are themselves blind, have been instrumental in instilling hope and self-assurance in the blind and in improving the public image of blind people; and

Whereas, programs conducted by the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina assist the blind in obtaining employment and becoming productive members of society; and

Whereas, the many functions, activities, and programs of the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina have provided significant benefits to the blind of the State and to the people of South Carolina generally. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly designates PreviousAugust 13, 1994, as "National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina Day", and the Governor is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation calling on the people of the State of South Carolina to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Governor Campbell and to the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina.
