AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 7-7-280, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE DESIGNATION OF VOTING PRECINCTS AND POLLING PLACES IN GREENVILLE COUNTY, SO AS TO CHANGE CERTAIN POLLING PLACES, AND DESIGNATE A MAP NUMBER ON WHICH LINES OF PRECINCTS ARE DELINEATED AND MAINTAINED BY THE DIVISION OF RESEARCH AND STATISTICAL SERVICES OF THE STATE BUDGET AND CONTROL BOARD, AND EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2001, THE AUTHORITY TO ESTABLISH POLLING PLACES IS TRANSFERRED FROM THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE GREENVILLE COUNTY BOARD OF VOTER REGISTRATION AND THE GREENVILLE COUNTY ELECTION COMMISSION WITH THE APPROVAL OF A MAJORITY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GREENVILLE COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Voting precincts and polling places

SECTION 1. Section 7-7-280 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 320 of 1998, is further amended to read:

"Section 7-7-280. (A) In Greenville County there are the following voting precincts and polling places:

(B) The precinct lines defining the precincts in subsection (A) are as shown on maps filed with the Greenville County Board of Voter Registration and also on file with the State Election Commission as provided and maintained by the Division of Research and Statistical Services of the State Budget and Control Board designated as document P-4592.

(C) Beginning January 1, 2001, the polling places for the precincts provided in subsection (A) must be established by the Greenville County Board of Voter Registration and the Greenville County Election Commission with the approval of a majority of the members of the Greenville County Legislative Delegation."

Code Commissioner to delete references

SECTION 2. The Code Commissioner is directed to delete all references to specific polling places in Section 7-7-280 of the 1976 Code when the 2000 Cumulative Supplement to the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, is printed.

Time effective

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.

Ratified the 26th day of April, 2000.

Approved the 1st day of May, 2000.
