A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE BATTERY B 713TH AAA GUN
BATTALION OF SOUTH CAROLINA NATIONAL GUARD,
KERSHAW COUNTY, ON ITS FORTY-SEVENTH
ANNIVERSARY.
Whereas, Battery B 713th AAA Gun Battalion of the South Carolina
National Guard, Kershaw County, was mustered to active military
service during the Korean conflict; and
Whereas, the Battery reported for active duty to First Lieutenant
William G. Major, Jr., with four officers and one hundred
thirty-seven enlisted men; and
Whereas, the Kershaw Guards have been mustered into active service
nine times between October 6, 1914, and August 14, 1950, making
an outstanding contribution to our colorful American history; and
Whereas, men from Battery B were used to fill vacancies in combat
units in Korea and were commended by their combat commanders for
the fine leadership, morals, and initiative displayed in the
performance of their missions; and
Whereas, on August 16, 1997, Battery B will reunite for its
forty-seventh anniversary, dedicating this reunion to the deceased
members of this unit. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That Battery B 713th AAA Gun Battalion of the South Carolina
National Guard, Kershaw County, is hereby congratulated on its
forty-seventh anniversary.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
First Lieutenant William G. Major, Jr., The Chronicle Independent,
Camden, South Carolina, and The Camden Archives, Camden, South
Carolina.
