Whereas, to lose one's life is the ultimate sacrifice a soldier can give for the defense of his country; and

Whereas, these brave men and women have each distinguished themselves and their families through their courage, actions, and love of their country; and

Whereas, the valor of these fallen heroes will never be forgotten by all Americans who will honor and treasure their memory; and

Whereas, it is appropriate that each of these individuals receive the Palmetto Patriot Award for their sacrifice. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate honor the forty-seven men and women of the armed services of the United States from South Carolina or with South Carolina ties who have died in the war in Iraq and thank Lieutenant Governor André Bauer for his efforts in giving each the Palmetto Patriot Award.
