A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF TONY L. CARR, SR., OF AIKEN COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were saddened to learn of the death of Tony L. Carr, Sr., on April 13, 2008; and

Whereas, born in Vaucluse, Tony Carr made his home in North AugustaNext where he was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and served as a member of the Parish Council for four years and as a Eucharistic minister for nineteen years; and

Whereas, after two years in the United States Navy, he worked as a land surveyor for forty years and owned and operated Tony L. Carr, Sr. and Associates, Incorporated, since 1968; and

Whereas, with Eunice Carr his beloved wife of forty-three years, he raised three fine sons, Tony L. Carr, Jr., Robert L. Carr, and Dan L. Carr, and they were blessed with two adoring grandchildren; and

Whereas, in 1999, he was named Surveyor of the Year and was a member of the Aiken Chapter of the South Carolina Society of Professional Land Surveyors for twenty-nine years and the Georgia Surveyors Samsog Chapter for twenty-four years and served as its president for ten years; and

Whereas, an American Indian of the Chickasaw Nation, he was devoted to fellowship with and service to all veterans through his life memberships in the Vietnam Veterans of America, Central Savannah River Area Chapter 544, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9164, the American Legion Post # 71, and the Military Order of the Stars and Bars Chapter #50 and was Brigadier General, E. Porter Alexander Camp #158 Sons of Confederate Veterans; and

Whereas, he also served his community as Chairman of the Wade Hampton Veterans Park in North PreviousAugusta and as President of the South Carolina Chapter of Heritage Preservation Association; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly pause in their deliberations to express their sadness upon the death of Tony L. Carr and to convey their sympathy to his loving family. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Tony L. Carr, Sr., of Aiken County, and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Eunice Carr.
