A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF ERNEST ROSCOE "ROS" HUFF OF RICHLAND COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Ernest Roscoe "Ros" Huff at the age of sixty-nine on March 1, 2020; and

Whereas, born in AugustaNext, Georgia, on July 20, 1950, he was the son of Ernest Roscoe Huff, Sr., and the late Trilby Rozier Huff, and he earned a bachelor's degree from PreviousAugusta College and a juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law; and

Whereas, after his admission to the South Carolina Bar in 1976, Mr. Huff served as an attorney with the United States Small Business Administration in Columbia and in Chicago, Illinois; and

Whereas, from 1981 to 1992, he served as chief counsel for the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Fund, and from 1992 to 1998, he served as special counsel with Nexsen, Pruet, Jacobs, and Pollard, LLP, in the Columbia office; and

Whereas, Mr. Huff opened a law office as a sole practitioner in 1998, specializing in workers' compensation defense, and was a frequent speaker for various organizations on the topic of workers' compensation; and

Whereas, for several years, he coauthored Workers' Compensation of South Carolina published by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and served on the editorial board for the South Carolina Bar publication on the law of Workers' Compensation in South Carolina; and

Whereas, a member of the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Educational Association and the Richland County and South Carolina Bar associations, Mr. Huff had over a dozen cases decided in the South Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court; and

Whereas, Mr. Huff was an active member of the Optimist Club of St. Andrews-Irmo, serving as the club's president and as a board member for many years. He was honored as a recipient of the Optimist of the Year; and

Whereas, together with his beloved wife, Terri Huff, he reared a fine daughter, Haley Huff. He was a devoted Christian and took pleasure in helping with youth mission trips. He was an avid golfer and Gamecock fan and enjoyed participating with the WIS Families Helping Families and the Ray Tanner Home Run for Children; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Ros Huff and for the example of service and kindness he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Ernest Roscoe "Ros" Huff of Richland County and extend their deepest sympathy to his loving family and his many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ernest Roscoe "Ros" Huff.
