 A Bill to amend the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, by adding Section
 7-13-200 so as to provide that if a vacancy occurs in a local office in a
 county which elects its local officers it must be filled for the remainder of
 the unexpired term by appointment of the Governor upon the recommendation of a
 majority of the members of the county legislative delegation representing that
 county.

A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 7-13-200 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT IF A VACANCY OCCURS IN A LOCAL OFFICE IN A COUNTY WHICH ELECTS ITS LOCAL OFFICERS IT MUST BE FILLED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE UNEXPIRED TERM BY APPOINTMENT OF THE GOVERNOR UPON THE RECOMMENDATION OF A MAJORITY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION REPRESENTING THAT COUNTY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 7-13-200. If a vacancy occurs in a local office in a county which elects its local officers, it must be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term by appointment of the Governor upon the recommendation of a majority of the members of the local legislative delegation representing that county."

SECTION 2. Other laws inconsistent with the provisions of this act are repealed.

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
