H*3759 Concurrent Resolution, By J.J. Bailey
A Concurrent Resolution to commend the Lowcountry Releaf Organization for its
outstanding efforts in planting trees in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester
Counties which comprise the tri-county area of this State

04/03/91 House Introduced, adopted, sent to Senate HJ-2
04/03/91 Senate Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE LOWCOUNTRY RELEAF ORGANIZATION FOR ITS OUTSTANDING EFFORTS IN PLANTING TREES IN CHARLESTON, BERKELEY, AND DORCHESTER COUNTIES WHICH COMPRISE THE TRI-COUNTY AREA OF THIS STATE.

Whereas, the environment of South Carolina is one of our State's most precious resources; and

Whereas, a group of concerned citizens has joined together to establish the Lowcountry ReLeaf organization whose mission is to plant trees in the urban environs of the tri-county area of South Carolina; and

Whereas, acccording to Trees Atlanta, an urban tree planting organization, for every tree planted in cities in the Southeast, four are lost; and

Whereas, although born out of the devastation caused by Hurricane Hugo, Lowcountry ReLeaf's mission now extends far beyond replacing trees downed by Hurricane Hugo because constant replanting is necessary to restore trees lost from the pressures of development and population growth; and

Whereas, in ReLeaf's sixteen months of existence, it has planted 3,100 relatively large trees of about fifty different varieties that are suited to the South Carolina coastal environment. Planting projects have occurred at about one hundred sites in the tri-county area; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, are desirous of publicly recognizing and commending the Lowcountry ReLeaf organization, and the many individuals and businesses involved with it which have given generously of their time and money for this truly worthwhile project. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend the Lowcountry ReLeaf organization for its outstanding efforts in planting trees in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Counties which comprise the tri-county area of this State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lowcountry ReLeaf.
