A BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976,
BY ADDING SECTION 2-1-105, SO AS TO PROHIBIT A MEMBER
OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FROM SOLICITING VOTES FOR
A FULL-TIME SALARIED STATE POSITION AND PROVIDE A
PENALTY FOR VIOLATION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 2-1-105. (A) No member of the General Assembly
may solicit for himself the pledge of another member of the General
Assembly for any full-time salaried position including, but not limited
to, any judge of the family, circuit, or court of appeals, or justice of the
Supreme Court, or member of the Workers' Compensation Commission.
(B) Any person violating the provisions of this section is guilty of a
misdemeanor and must be punished in accordance with the provisions
of Section 8-13-1520."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
