1976, relating to qualifications and terms of family court judges, so as to
change the term from six to four years.

A BILL
TO AMEND SECTION 20-7-1370, AS AMENDED, CODE OF
LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO
QUALIFICATIONS AND TERMS OF FAMILY COURT
JUDGES, SO AS TO CHANGE THE TERM FROM SIX TO
FOUR YEARS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 20-7-1370 B. of the 1976 Code, as last
amended by Act 17 of 1989, is further amended to read:
"B. Family court judges must be elected by the General
Assembly for terms of six four years and until their
successors are elected and qualify."
SECTION 2. Those family court judges serving on this act's
effective date shall continue to serve until the expiration of the
terms for which they were elected and until their successors are
elected and qualify.
SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the
Governor.
