56-5-3255 so as to require a driver of a motor vehicle traveling through a

A BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA,
1976, BY ADDING SECTION 56-5-3255 SO AS TO REQUIRE A
DRIVER OF A MOTOR VEHICLE TRAVELING THROUGH A
PARKING LOT TO YIELD THE RIGHT-OF-WAY TO
PEDESTRIANS AND TO PROVIDE PENALTIES.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 56-5-3255. The driver of a motor vehicle
traveling through a parking lot shall yield the right-of-way to a
pedestrian walking through the parking lot. A person who violates
this provision is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction,
must be fined not more than one hundred dollars or imprisoned not
more than thirty days."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the
Governor.
