FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE STATE
ETHICS COMMISSION AND FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND AND THANK GARY R. BAKER UPON HIS RETIREMENT FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE STATE ETHICS COMMISSION AND FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, Gary R. Baker is retiring as Executive Director of the State Ethics Commission, has served as Executive Director for the past twenty-three years, and is the first and only Executive Director that the State Ethics Commission has had; and
Whereas, he has provided invaluable leadership to the State Ethics Commission in administering the ethics statutes to include financial disclosure, campaign practices, lobbyist registration and disclosure, and ethical rules of conduct; and
Whereas, Gary R. Baker served as a member of the Steering Committee of the Council on Governmental Ethics Laws; and
Whereas, he is a 1988 graduate of Leadership South Carolina and a 1994 graduate of the Executive Institute; and
Whereas, Gary R. Baker received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The Citadel in 1966, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of South Carolina in 1972; and
Whereas, he served in the United States Army as a Captain of Field Artillery at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Korea, and Fort Jackson, South Carolina; and
Whereas, Gary R. Baker has served as Commander of American Legion Post #7 in Lexington, President of the East Columbia Optimist Club, President of the South Carolina Civil War Roundtable, Board Member of the South Carolina Battleground Preservation Trust, and member of Acacia Masonic Lodge and the Association of Citadel Men; and
Whereas, he has served as Junior Warden of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Lexington, South Carolina; and
Whereas, Gary R. Baker is the author of Cadets in Gray; and
Whereas, he is listed in Who's Who in the South and Southwest; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank this outstanding South Carolinian for his loyal and dedicated service to the State Ethics Commission and the State of South Carolina upon the occasion of his retirement and for his many other contributions. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Gary R. Baker for his exemplary service as Executive Director of the State Ethics Commission of South Carolina, and for his outstanding contributions to the State of South Carolina, and further wish him the very best in his retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Gary R. Baker.
