A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE TUESDAY, MARCH 13, 2018, AS "4-H DAY" IN SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO COMMEND MS. LINDSEY SCOTT, STATE 4-H TEEN COUNCIL PRESIDENT; DR. PAM ARDERN, STATE 4-H PROGRAM LEADER; AND THE 2017-2018 4-H LEADERSHIP TEAM FOR THEIR NUMEROUS ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND THE LEADERSHIP THEY HAVE DEMONSTRATED.

Whereas, 4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills. They consistently demonstrate the ability and leadership necessary to be champions and serve as outstanding representatives and ambassadors of the young people of South Carolina; and

Whereas, since 1908, South Carolina 4-H has operated under the land-grant university system in the Clemson Cooperative Extension Service, offering programs to youth ages five to nineteen; and

Whereas, South Carolina 4-H has ninety-two thousand 4-H members in six program areas: Agriculture and Animals; Healthy Lifestyles; Leadership and Citizenship; Natural Resources; Personal Development; and Science, Engineering, and Technology; and

Whereas, under the guidance of advisor Jessica Simpson, the 2017-2018 South Carolina Teen Council members have demonstrated outstanding leadership, dedication, and hard work. Council members include Lindsey Scott, president; Logan Moore, vice president; Nakel Pinckney, secretary; Jordan Snipes, public relations; Andrea Habersham, legislative liaison; Isabella Birket and Hailey Williamson, Midlands representatives; Ian Eklund and Garrett Ulmer, Savannah Valley representatives; and Zoie Bowers and Morgan Marlett, Upstate representatives; and

Whereas, the excellent record of accomplishments in citizenship and leadership of Savanna Hill of Florence CountyNext, Nikole Rivers of Dorchester PreviousCountyNext, Lindsey Scott of Saluda PreviousCountyNext, and Sarah Shore of Saluda PreviousCountyNext will be recognized in Washington, D.C., at the 2018 National 4-H Conference; and

Whereas, Shannon Herndon of Bamberg PreviousCountyNext, Morgan McManus of Darlington PreviousCountyNext, Mackinzie Riley of Saluda PreviousCountyNext, and Jennifer Sweatman of Colleton PreviousCountyNext are the winners of the 2017 4-H Presidential Tray Award, which recognizes the top four senior 4-H members who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in 4-H leadership, citizenship, and project work; and

Whereas, as State 4-H Project winners, Stephanie Aull of Lexington PreviousCountyNext, Junelle Gray Johnson of Charleston PreviousCountyNext, Lindsey Scott of Saluda PreviousCountyNext, Meghan Sheets of Charleston PreviousCountyNext, Sarah Shore of Saluda PreviousCountyNext, and Faith Whittemore of Charleston PreviousCounty were recognized at the 2017 National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize Tuesday, March 13, 2018, as "4-H Day" in South Carolina and commend Ms. Lindsey Scott, State 4-H Teen Council president; Dr. Pam Ardern, State 4-H program leader; and the 2017-2018 4-H leadership team for their numerous accomplishments and the leadership they have demonstrated.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Clemson University Cooperative Extension.
