A JOINT RESOLUTION TO REQUIRE THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO REIMBURSE THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF GREENVILLE COUNTY THE AMOUNT OF ONE HUNDRED FOUR THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED TWENTY-SIX DOLLARS AND THIRTY-SIX CENTS, EQUALING THE DIFFERENCE IN THE AMOUNTS PAID TO SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF GREENVILLE COUNTY AND THE AMOUNT REIMBURSED THE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR THE PERIOD JANUARY, 1981, THROUGH MAY, 1982.
Whereas, the School District of Greenville County paid more to its school bus drivers from January, 1981, through May, 1982, than the school district requested as reimbursement from the Office of Transportation of the State Department of Education; and
Whereas, the computer program responsible for generating bus driver payroll for the School District of Greenville County was changed to reflect the increase in the minimum wage to three dollars and thirty-five cents per hour (effective January, 1981), but the reimbursement program was not updated for the remainder of the 1980-81 school year or for the entire 1981-82 school year; and
Whereas, the difference in the amount paid to the school bus drivers by the School District of Greenville County and the amount collected by the school district from the State is the difference between the minimum wage prior to January, 1981, and the new minimum wage thereafter; and
Whereas, the School District of Greenville County failed to request a total of one hundred four thousand two hundred twenty-six dollars and thirty-six cents, which reflects the difference in the amounts paid to school bus drivers and the amount actually reimbursed for the period January, 1981, through May, 1982; and
Whereas, appropriate steps have been taken to ensure that this situation will not happen again; and
Whereas, the General Assembly feels that the School District of Greenville County should be reimbursed the difference in the amount it paid its school bus drivers and the amount actually reimbursed for the period January, 1981, through May, 1982. Now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Department shall reimburse school district of Greenville County
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the State Department of Education shall reimburse the School District of Greenville County the amount of one hundred four thousand two hundred twenty-six dollars and thirty-six cents from the funds appropriated by the General Assembly to the State Department of Education for fiscal year 1983-84, such amount equaling the difference in the amounts paid to school bus drivers by the School District of Greenville County and the amount reimbursed the school district for the period January, 1981, through May, 1982.
Time effective
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor. |
