Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Kershaw PreviousCountyNext has been named a 2018 All-America City Award winner; and

Whereas, the award presentation, held in Denver on June 24, 2018, saluted Kershaw PreviousCountyNext as one of ten All-America City Award winners. The National Civic League presented this honor to Kershaw PreviousCountyNext to recognize its work in inclusive civic engagement to address critical issues and create stronger connections among residents, businesses, and nonprofit and government leaders. During the ceremony, the PreviouscountyNext was praised for engaging residents in visioning, using all sectors to support student success, and using schools to improve healthcare availability; and

Whereas, all applicants submitted their work on equity and civic engagement and three projects for consideration, and the field was narrowed to twenty. Then, finalist communities presented their projects and their communities to a jury. The entire presentation took the form of a wellness bus tour, with community members, program partners, and city and PreviouscountyNext officials singing and showing how the PreviouscountyNext is being reimagined for the benefit of all; and

Whereas, in addition to the All-America City Award, the delegation earned two other awards. Clinton Washington, a 2018 graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School, won the Youth Award for extraordinary community leadership. Further, the delegation brought home the social media award for best and creative utilization of social media across all platforms to engage citizens and feature the community. Johnny Deal spearheaded the social media campaign; and

Whereas, members of the winning delegation were Sophia Leone Alteri, Caroline Brianna Anderson, Julian Hall Burns, Jr., Jaelen Bussey, Laurey S. Carpenter, Victor Joseph Carpenter, Carl Michael Conley, John Milton Deal, Jr., Kimberly Calvert Dixon, Richard Allen Dixon, Jr., Alfred Mae Drakeford, Melissa S.
