TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE PreviousCOUNTYNext ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE AUTHORITIES CREATED BY ACT 301 OF 1973 FOR ITS FIFTY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF SOUTH CAROLINA AS PROVIDERS OF PREVENTION, INTERVENTION, TREATMENT, AND RECOVERY SUPPORT SERVICES AND TO DECLARE TUESDAY, MARCH 28, 2023, AS "COMMUNITIES FOR RECOVERY DAY" IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

 

Whereas, founded in 1973, the system of PreviouscountyNext alcohol and drug abuse authorities consists of thirty-one agencies providing prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery support services in all forty-six PreviouscountiesNext that are evidence-based and best practice; and

 

Whereas, South Carolina has more than 451,000 individuals in need of treatment services, and the PreviouscountyNext alcohol and drug abuse authorities are dedicated to engaging those to support recovery; and

 

Whereas, addiction is a complex disease that requires complex interventions with the help of multiple people to help those in need to engage in treatment and sustain recovery; and

 

Whereas, the PreviouscountyNext alcohol and drug abuse authorities engage in local partnerships to expand the reach of engagement into confidential treatment and recovery support services; and

 

Whereas, over the past fifty years, the PreviouscountyNext alcohol and drug abuse authorities have provided PreviouscountlessNext prevention and treatment services to individuals and their families suffering from substance-use disorders in the State of South Carolina; and

 

Whereas, the PreviouscountyNext alcohol and drug abuse authorities provide services of withdrawal management, as well as residential, intensive outpatient, outpatient, prevention, intervention, and recovery support services; and

 

Whereas, the PreviouscountyNext alcohol and drug abuse authorities are contracted through the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services to provide services to those most in need, including underserved and underinsured individuals in South Carolina; and

 

Whereas, the PreviouscountyNext alcohol and drug abuse authorities employ licensed and credentialed staff in an agency that is state-licensed and nationally accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Services and the Joint Commission. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the PreviouscountyNext alcohol and drug abuse authorities created by Act 301 of 1973 for its fifty years of service to the citizens of South Carolina as providers of prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery support services and declare Tuesday, March 28, 2023, as "Communities for Recovery Day" in South Carolina.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Behavioral Health Services Association of South Carolina, the membership organization of the Previouscounty alcohol and drug abuse authorities.
