A Bill to amend the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, by adding Section
7-11-260 so as to provide that the state or county chairman of a political
party may send a representative to the state or county headquarters of another
recognized political party at any time during regular office hours after
twelve noon on the last day for filing for statewide or countywide office, to
authorize the representative to obtain a list of candidates who have filed for
statewide or countywide office, provide that the list of candidates must be
furnished in a timely manner, and provide penalties for violation.

A BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976,
BY ADDING SECTION 7-11-260 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE
STATE OR COUNTY CHAIRMAN OF A POLITICAL PARTY MAY
SEND A REPRESENTATIVE TO THE STATE OR COUNTY
HEADQUARTERS OF ANOTHER RECOGNIZED POLITICAL
PARTY AT ANY TIME DURING REGULAR OFFICE HOURS
AFTER TWELVE NOON ON THE LAST DAY FOR FILING FOR
STATEWIDE OR COUNTYWIDE OFFICE, TO AUTHORIZE THE
REPRESENTATIVE TO OBTAIN A LIST OF CANDIDATES WHO
HAVE FILED FOR STATEWIDE OR COUNTYWIDE OFFICE,
PROVIDE THAT THE LIST OF CANDIDATES MUST BE
FURNISHED IN A TIMELY MANNER, AND PROVIDE PENALTIES
FOR VIOLATION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 7-11-260. (A) The state chairman of a
political party may send a representative to the state headquarters of
another political party during regular office hours any time after twelve
noon on the last day for filing for a statewide office for the purpose of
obtaining a list of the candidates who have filed for statewide office.
The list of candidates must be furnished to the requesting representative
of the party within a reasonable time after the request but not later than
one hour after the deadline for filing has passed.
(B) The county chairman of a political party may send a
representative to the county headquarters of another political party
during regular office hours any time after twelve noon on the last day for
filing for a countywide office for the purpose of obtaining a list of the
candidates who have filed for countywide office. The list of candidates
must be furnished to the requesting representative of the party within a
reasonable time after the request but not later than one hour after the
deadline for filing has passed.
(C) A person violating the provisions of this section is guilty of a
misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be fined in an amount not to
exceed two hundred dollars or imprisoned for not more than thirty
days."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
