A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MR. CRANSTON PINCKNEY, A NATIVE OF DORCHESTER PreviousCOUNTYNext, FOR A LIFETIME OF SERVICE TO HIS COMMUNITY, PreviousCOUNTYNext, AND STATE AS AN EDUCATOR, MAGISTRATE, AND CIVIC LEADER.

Whereas, Cranston Pinckney is widely known throughout Dorchester PreviousCountyNext and the Lowcountry as an educator, judicial official, and civic leader; and

Whereas, he was born in Dorchester PreviousCountyNext, graduated from Williams Memorial High School in St. George, and from Claflin College in Orangeburg. He also holds a Master's Degree in Education from South Carolina State University; and

Whereas, he began his educational career as the principal of a three-teacher school in Harleyville for a period of two years, and later went to Ridgeville where he spent twenty-eight years as a principal before his retirement; and

Whereas, in 1980 Mr. Pinckney was appointed as a magistrate for Dorchester PreviousCountyNext becoming the first African-American to serve as a judicial official in that PreviouscountyNext; and

Whereas, as a summary court judge, he was respected for his fair and equal treatment of all litigants, for his intelligence, and for his judicial demeanor; and

Whereas, Cranston Pinckney has served his church and community in many ways. He is a life-long member of St. Mark United Methodist Church serving on both the local and conference levels, has served as secretary of the Board of Trustees for the Shady Grove Campground for forty-four years, and is a member of Oakvilla Masonic Lodge and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity; and

Whereas, above all he is a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He and his lovely wife, the former Alice Jamison of Orangeburg, have four children, several grandchildren, and one great grandson. One daughter who he holds dear to his heart has now passed on; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate, by this resolution, would like to thank him on behalf of the citizens of Dorchester PreviousCountyNext and the State of South Carolina for all he has done to make his home PreviouscountyNext and our State a better place to live, work, and worship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate recognize and honor Mr. Cranston Pinckney, a native of Dorchester PreviousCountyNext, for a lifetime of service to his community, Previouscounty, and State as an educator, magistrate, and civic leader.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Cranston Pinckney.
