CONTRIBUTIONS TO PUBLIC EDUCATION AND HER COMMUNITY.

A HOUSE RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING DOT KING OF AIKEN COUNTY ON
BEING NAMED A FINALIST IN THE NATIONAL FAMILY
LITERACY TEACHER OF THE YEAR COMPETITION AND
COMMENDING HER FOR HER MANY YEARS OF
EXEMPLARY SERVICE AND COUNTLESS CONTRIBUTIONS
TO PUBLIC EDUCATION AND HER COMMUNITY.
Whereas, Dot King is in her fifty-second year of teaching in the
Aiken County public schools; she was the first kindergarten teacher
in the county and was also the first child development teacher for
four-year-old children; and
Whereas, Ms. King was instrumental in starting the first Headstart
program in the Aiken area, and she received the Wil Lou Gray Award
in 1996 -- an honor bestowed upon the educator in South Carolina
who best exemplifies the pioneering spirit of the late Dr. Wil Lou
Gray; and
Whereas, Ms. King serves as adult education teacher for the family
literacy program in Aiken County; she has been named a finalist in
1997 in the National Family Literacy Teacher of the Year
competition and will be recognized and honored in April at the
National Family Literacy Conference in Louisville, Kentucky; and
Whereas, she is a dynamic, energetic, and dedicated individual; she
cares greatly for others and does everything she can think to do to
serve and assist her students; she is indeed a role model and a leader
and has contributed in countless ways to excellence in public
education in Aiken County and South Carolina; and
Whereas, we are proud and delighted to have this opportunity to
recognize such an outstanding lady and devoted educator. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by
this resolution, congratulates Dot King of Aiken County on being
named a finalist in the National Family Literacy Teacher of the Year
competition and commends her for her many years of exemplary
service and countless contributions to public education and her
community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Ms. King.
