S*1437 Resolution, By Peeler, Gregory, Hayes and Short
A SENATE RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF MR. EDDIE BLACK, ONE
OF YORK COUNTYNext'S MOST BELOVED AND RESPECTED LEADERS.

06/20/00 Senate Introduced and adopted SJ-12

A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF MR. EDDIE BLACK, ONE OF YORK PreviousCOUNTYNext'S MOST BELOVED AND RESPECTED LEADERS.

Whereas, we were all saddened to learn of the death of Eddie Black of York PreviousCountyNext on Saturday, June 10, 2000. He was a successful businessman and Chairman of the Regional Council of Chambers; and

Whereas, the huge crowd attending Monday's graveside service for Eddie Black was a living testimonial of the impact he had on his beloved community and the PreviouscountyNext at-large; and

Whereas, born in York, he was a son of Polly Black Rodgers and the late E. C. Black, a legendary public servant in his own right; and

Whereas, Eddie attended York schools and received an agricultural degree from North Carolina State University; and

Whereas, he was the loving husband of Diane Myers Black; a devoted father to his son, Robert Clark Black, and his daughter, Jane Stockton Black, both of York; and is survived by two brothers, Arthur Quinn Black and John Robert Black, both of York; and

Whereas, Eddie Black began his family-owned business in 1986, selling agricultural and landscaping equipment from Massey-Ferguson; and

Whereas, Eddie Black's business required extended hours beyond the forty-hour work week, but he still found time to assume positions of leadership. Friends and colleagues had an appreciation for the dual role he played as President of Black Enterprises Inc. and community servant; and

Whereas, in his path through life, Eddie Black was widely known for his quite and determined demeanor -- always striving to keep the different factions within his community and PreviouscountyNext united; and

Whereas, Eddie Black served as past Chairman of the York PreviousCountyNext Economic Development Board, the York PreviousCountyNext Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Rock Hill Area Chamber of Commerce. He was past President of the Greater York Chamber of Commerce. Eddie was President of Farmer Mutual Insurance Company and a member of the York PreviousCountyNext Cattleman's Association; and

Whereas his death represents a tremendous loss to York PreviousCountyNext and we want his family and many friends to know that they are in our uppermost thoughts and prayers during this difficult time; and

Whereas, history will record that York PreviousCountyNext and the Palmetto State are better because Eddie Black passed this way; and

Whereas, we, the members of the South Carolina Senate, express appreciation for Eddie Black's life and his contributions and he will be long remembered and missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Mr. Eddie Black, one of York PreviousCounty's most beloved and respected leaders.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his wife, Mrs. Diane Myers Black.
