A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO OFFER THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MR. W. D. HARRINGTON OF CLARENDON PreviousCOUNTYNext ON RECEIVING THE 1999 DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA FARM BUREAU.

Whereas, Mr. W. D. Harrington of Clarendon PreviousCountyNext was named the recipient of the South Carolina Farm Bureau's highest honor - the 1999 Distinguished Service Award; and

Whereas, this award, which was presented to Mr. Harrington during the South Carolina Farm Bureau's fifty-sixth annual meeting, recognizes his outstanding contributions to the field of agriculture, the Farm Bureau, his community, and his church; and

Whereas, his farm operation near the town of Manning includes the production of vegetables, soybeans, wheat, and corn, as well as raising cattle; and

Whereas, Mr. Harrington has served actively at the PreviouscountyNext, state, and national levels of the Farm Bureau; and

Whereas, he has served as a member of the Clarendon PreviousCountyNext Farm Bureau Board of Directors, President of the Clarendon PreviousCountyNext Farm Bureau, and is serving as a member of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Board of Directors representing Clarendon PreviousCountyNext; and

Whereas, Mr. Harrington has served as Chairman of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Vegetable Advisory Committee, a voting delegate to the American Farm Bureau annual meeting, and as a member of several Farm Bureau special purpose committees; and

Whereas, he has served as Chairman of the Clarendon PreviousCountyNext Soil and Water Conservation Board, as a member and Past President of the South Carolina Soybean Board, former Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Clarendon PreviousCountyNext Farm Services Committee, Past Chairman of the Clarendon PreviousCountyNext Farmers Home Administration Board, and member of the South Carolina Corn Growers Association, and in 1989 was recognized as the Outstanding Commissioner of the Pee Dee Conservation District; and

Whereas, Mr. Harrington serves as a Deacon in the First Baptist Church in the Town of Manning, has served as Past Chairman of the Church's Board of Trustees, Past Chairman of the Finance Committee, Chairman of the Building Committee, Sunday School Teacher, and member of two pastoral search committees; and

Whereas, he is the devoted husband of Maudie Harrington, and together they are the proud parents of two sons and a daughter, and they have three grandchildren; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the South Carolina General Assembly to honor a man who has contributed such outstanding service to the field of agriculture, his community, and his church. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly congratulate Mr. W. D. Harrington of Clarendon PreviousCounty on receiving the 1999 Distinguished Service Award from the South Carolina Farm Bureau.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. W. D. Harrington.
