A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MRS. MACLEOD BELLUNE AND HER HUSBAND, JERRY, ON THE REPURCHASE OF THE DISPATCH NEWS AND ITS SUBSEQUENT MERGER WITH THE LEXINGTON PreviousCOUNTYNext CHRONICLE WHICH THEY ALSO OWN TO KEEP A ONE HUNDRED THIRTY YEAR OLD NEWSPAPER TRADITION ALIVE IN LEXINGTON PreviousCOUNTYNext.

Whereas, the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina are pleased to learn that MacLeod Bellune, owner and publisher of The Lexington PreviousCountyNext Chronicle together with her husband, Jerry, purchased The Dispatch News on March 22, 2001, and have merged it with The Lexington PreviousCountyNext Chronicle; and

Whereas, MacLeod and Jerry Bellune saved The Dispatch News from financial distress in 1984 and restored it to robust health, making it into a profitable and award winning newspaper in seven years under their stewardship before Mrs. Bellune left The Dispatch News in 1991; and

Whereas, MacLeod, Jerry, their son Mark, and two former Dispatch colleagues, Hilda Crain and Rebecca Kelly, founded The Lexington PreviousCountyNext Chronicle in 1992 and built it into a profitable newspaper which has won more than seventy awards for journalistic and advertising excellence; and

Whereas, the merger of The Lexington PreviousCountyNext Chronicle with The Dispatch News keeps a one hundred thirty year old newspaper tradition of community and public service alive in Lexington PreviousCountyNext; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate, by this resolution, would like to recognize and commend these two outstanding South Carolinians upon the wonderful news of this recent business acquisition and merger. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate congratulate Mrs. MacLeod Bellune and her husband, Jerry, on the repurchase of The Dispatch News and its subsequent merger with The Lexington PreviousCountyNext Chronicle which they also own to keep a one hundred thirty year old newspaper tradition alive in Lexington PreviousCounty.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to MacLeod and Jerry Bellune.
