 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE SENATE UPON THE
 PASSING OF COUNTY COUNCILMAN GEORGE "BUNNY" GUY, SR. OF CHESTER COUNTY AND TO
 CONVEY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY.

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE SENATE UPON THE PASSING OF COUNTY COUNCILMAN GEORGE "BUNNY" GUY, SR. OF CHESTER COUNTY AND TO CONVEY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened by news of the death of Mr. George "Bunny" Guy, Sr. on February 12, 2006; and

Whereas, a Chester native, County Councilman Guy became a true fixture of his community, refusing to believe that he, a black man, could not make a difference in changing the minds and lives of his neighbors and friends; and

Whereas, a loving and devoted family man, Mr. Guy celebrated a wonderful marriage with his wife, Mary, and adored his three children, George "Ben" Guy, Jr., Corey Guy, and Stephanie Jackson; and

Whereas, having a unique entrepreneurial spirit, Mr. Guy started out selling insurance and moved into other business ventures, including the Bunny Club Night Club and Victor Cab Company; and

Whereas, possessing a generous heart, Mr. Guy avidly worked to help average people make better lives for themselves; and

Whereas, the first black man ever to serve on the Chester County Council, Mr. Guy served for 16 years, initiating ground-breaking legislation that made Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday a county holiday. He also was instrumental in commencing Chester County's annual parade to honor Dr. King and helped revive the Chester County chapter of the NAACP; and

Whereas, a steadfast believer, Mr. Guy attended Brown's Chapel AME Zion Church, where he directed the choir for 40 years; and

Whereas, though Mr. Guy is sorely missed, his legacy and integrity will live on in the lives of all who knew him, and the impact he made on the Chester community will not soon be forgotten. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of County Councilman George "Bunny" Guy, Sr. of Chester County and convey the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Mary Guy.
