TO CONGRATULATE MR. WILLIE R. DAVIS OF DORCHESTER PreviousCOUNTYNext ON THE OCCASION OF HIS SIXTIETH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HIM A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY MORE YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Mr. Willie R. Davis of Dorchester PreviousCountyNext will celebrate his sixtieth birthday on July 11, 2010; and

Whereas, born July 11, 1950, Willie Davis was raised by Judge and Mrs. Cranston Pinckney; and

Whereas, a native of St. George, Mr. Davis is a graduate of Williams Memorial High School and holds a bachelor's degree in science and biology from Claflin University, as well as a master's degree in counseling from South Carolina State University; and

Whereas, having committed his life to education as a teacher and administrator, he served in the Colleton PreviousCountyNext school system for thirty-six years; and

Whereas, in addition, he has served faithfully the citizens of Dorchester PreviousCountyNext as a councilman from 1990 to the present. His twenty years of service to Dorchester PreviousCountyNext have been characterized by his advocacy, dedication, and responsiveness to constituents, and his fellow PreviouscountyNext councilmen have demonstrated their respect for his outstanding leadership by selecting him to serve as vice chairman of PreviouscountyNext council for four consecutive years; and

Whereas, Willie Davis is the devoted husband of Joyce Washington Davis, his wife of thirty years, and the loving father of three children; and

Whereas, a man of faith, Mr. Davis is a member of the St. Mark United Methodist Church, where he is a class leader, certified lay speaker, Sunday School teacher, and treasurer; and

Whereas, as part of his active involvement in his community, he serves as president of the St. George branch of the NAACP. He is also past chairman of the Berkeley-Dorchester Economic Development Corporation, Upper Dorchester Community Development Council, and Shady Grove LOUD Corporation; and

Whereas, to the delight of his fellow citizens, Mr. Davis founded the annual MLK Weekend Celebration and Parade in Dorchester PreviousCountyNext, much anticipated and enjoyed by hundreds. To further benefit his constituents, Mr. Davis cosponsored the Seniors Work Program for Dorchester and the Summer Youth Employment Program for Dorchester PreviousCountyNext Government; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to honor Mr. Willie R. Davis at the celebration of his sixtieth birthday and joins with his family and friends in congratulating him on reaching this important life's milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Mr. Willie R. Davis of Dorchester PreviousCounty on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday and wish him a joyous birthday celebration and many more years of health and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Mr. Willie R. Davis.
