TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR WILHELMINA JAGER MOORE UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT FROM THE BERKELEY PreviousCOUNTYNext SCHOOL BOARD, TO THANK HER FOR HER MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE, AND TO WISH HER MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS AHEAD.

Whereas, from 1994 to 2015, the Berkeley PreviousCountyNext School Board enjoyed the benefit of the dedication, experience, and leadership of member Wilhelmina Jager Moore, who retired from her post last year after more than two decades of service; and

Whereas, a native of Pineville, Wilhelmina Jager Moore has been a lifelong student, career educator, and community leader. Having received her earliest education in Berkeley PreviousCountyNext, she attended Voorhees High School and Junior College. After marrying and starting a family, Mrs. Moore entered South Carolina State College, where she earned a degree in elementary education, followed by an educational specialist degree in educational administration. In addition, she has done coursework toward a doctorate in educational administration at South Carolina State University; and

Whereas, Mrs. Moore began her career in public education as a teacher at Cainhoy School in Huger. After teaching for several years, she was accepted into the University of Georgia in Athens, where she earned a master's degree in guidance and counseling. Two years later when she returned home to Berkeley PreviousCountyNext, she became a guidance counselor at Central High School. During her tenure at Central High, Mrs. Moore helped an unprecedented number of students enroll in college. Later, she became a guidance counselor at C.E. Murray High School in Williamsburg PreviousCountyNext. She retired from the Williamsburg PreviousCountyNext School District in February 2015, having most recently served as a teacher and counselor in the Star Academy Alternative Program; and

Whereas, her contributions to education extend beyond the school building. Over the years, she has been instrumental as an advocate for children in South Carolina public schools, particularly African-American children in Berkeley PreviousCountyNext; and

Whereas, as a woman of faith, Mrs. Moore worships at Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church (formerly Greenhill United Methodist Church), which she attended as a child; and

Whereas, in recognition of Wilhelmina Moore's substantial community contributions, she was honored the prestigious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Community Spirit Award by the Tri-PreviousCountyNext Nu Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; and

Whereas, Mrs. Moore has been blessed with a wonderful family, including three children, John Sheperd, Dr. Michelle S. Meekins, and Kenneth Moore; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Despite a busy schedule, Mrs. Moore always finds time to enjoy being with her family, which also includes her sister, Elizabeth Wigfall, and adopted sister, Leola Spencer, and her many friends; and

Whereas, the Senate, grateful for Mrs. Moore's decades of faithfulness in serving the people of South Carolina, takes great pleasure in commending her for her contributions to education in this great State, especially in Berkeley and Williamsburg PreviouscountiesNext. Her love for, and dedication to, the students is unparalleled, and she truly will be missed within the education arena. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Wilhelmina Jager Moore upon the occasion of her retirement from the Berkeley PreviousCounty School Board, thank her for her many years of outstanding public service, and wish her much happiness and fulfillment in the future.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Wilhelmina Jager Moore.
