AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE MANNER IN WHICH MILLAGE SHALL BE LEVIED AND TAXES
COLLECTED IN BERKELEY COUNTY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE
BERKELEY-CHARLESTON-DORCHESTER TECHNICAL EDUCATION CENTER.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Center deemed public school
Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the
Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Technical Education Center shall be deemed to
be a public school for purposes of the annual tax levy for school purposes in
Berkeley County. The county board of education when preparing the annual
school budget as provided by law and the county legislative delegation when
approving such school budget as provided by law shall additionally provide for
the millage to be levied for Berkeley County's share of the operating expenses
of the center. The county auditor shall then levy and the county treasurer
shall then collect such millage in the same manner as they levy and collect
other school taxes.
Effective for tax year 1980 and thereafter
Section 2. The provisions of Section 1 of this act shall be effective for
the property tax levy for the year 1980 and thereafter, and the Berkeley
County Council in its next county operating budget shall no longer provide
funds for the center.
Time effective
Section 3. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor. |
