A senate RESOLUTION

TO congratulate THE HONORABLE KaTHY RAWLS, AIKEN PreviousCOUNTYNext COUNCIL MEMBER, upon the occasion of her retirement, to commend her for her MORE THAN THIRTY YEARS OF dedicated SERVICE, AND TO WISH HER much happiness and fulfillment IN the years ahead.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were pleased to learn that the Honorable Kathy Rawls began a well-earned retirement on December 31, 2022, after thirty-one years as a member of Aiken PreviousCountyNext Council; and

Whereas, Mrs. Rawls was first elected to Aiken PreviousCountyNext Council in 1988 and then re-elected for four more years in 1990. She took a brief interval from the council and returned in 1997, serving the PreviouscountyNext's District 1 since then; and

Whereas, Mrs. Rawls prioritized the residents of District 1, seeking the best for the entire PreviouscountyNext and its citizens during her tenure. She served on the Development and Administrative committees as well as on the Lower Savannah Council of Governments and other public service agencies; and

Whereas, Mrs. Rawls has provided notable leadership to the rapidly growing community. She was instrumental to the construction of a larger Aiken PreviousCountyNext Animal Shelter, the development of zoning and subdivision regulations, the establishment of the E-911 Emergency Dispatch System and expansion of Emergency Medical Services, improvements to the Aiken PreviousCountyNext Judicial Center and to PreviouscountyNext parks, the establishment of a modern detention center with more security for officers and detainees, and the purchase of seven fire tankers; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate commend the Honorable Kathy Rawls for her history of distinguished service to Aiken PreviousCountyNext Council and take great pleasure in extending best wishes to her as she transitions to a richly deserved retirement and the unhurried pace of the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Honorable Kathy Rawls, Aiken PreviousCounty Council member, upon the occasion of her retirement, commend her for her more than thirty years of dedicated service, and wish her much happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Kathy Rawls.
