A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING THE REVEREND DR. S.C. CURETON OF
GREENVILLE COUNTY ON HIS CANDIDACY FOR NEXT
PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL BAPTIST CONVENTION, U.S.A.,
INC., AND CONGRATULATING HIM ON THE TWENTY-EIGHTH
ANNIVERSARY OF HIS PASTORATE OF REEDY RIVER BAPTIST
CHURCH IN GREENVILLE COUNTY.
Whereas, the Reverend Dr. S.C. Cureton of Greenville County is a
candidate for next president of the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A.,
Inc.; and
Whereas, this is an extremely high honor and demanding job, and will
be decided in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1994; and
Whereas, Dr. Cureton is a native of Greenville County, and he received
his A.B. degree from Benedict College and his B.D. degree from J.J.
Starks School of Theology; and
Whereas, he did further studies at South Carolina State College, Clafflin
College, North Carolina Central, and Clemson University; and
Whereas, in 1982 and 1983 the Doctor of Divinity degree was bestowed
upon him by Morris College and Benedict College for outstanding
services as an educator, churchman, religious leader, friend to humanity,
and service to the colleges; and
Whereas, it has been said of him -- and truly so -- that he has dedicated
his life to the helping of all human-kind, especially children by serving
as a teacher in the public school sector for twenty-six years and as a
pastor and builder of churches since 1954; and
Whereas, he built a multipurpose building, including a gymnasium with
a life center, and on Sunday, March 28, 1993, he is celebrating his
twenty-eighth anniversary as pastor of Reedy River Baptist Church on
Mauldin Road in Greenville County; and
Whereas, Dr. Cureton is an outstanding individual in every way and a
genuine role model for countless persons, and we know that he would
make a superb president of the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A.
Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, proudly recognizes the Reverend Dr. S.C. Cureton of

Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc., and congratulates him on the
twenty-eighth anniversary of his pastorate of Reedy River Baptist
Church in Greenville County.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr.
Cureton.
