AN ACT TO AMEND ACT 288 OF 1987, RELATING TO THE
UNION-LAURENS HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION, SO AS TO
INCREASE IT FROM SEVEN TO NINE MEMBERS, AND REQUIRE
THE TWO ADDITIONAL MEMBERS RESIDE IN UNION COUNTY
AND TWO MEMBERS MUST RESIDE IN LAURENS COUNTY.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina:
Composition of commission
SECTION 1. The first paragraph of Section 1 of Act 288 of 1987 is
amended to read:
"There is created the Union-Laurens Commission for Higher
Education. This body is composed of nine members who must be
appointed by the Governor upon the recommendation of a majority of the
Union County and Laurens County Legislative Delegations, including the
Senators meeting in joint session. The first members of this commission
must be the present members of the Union County Commission for
Higher Education who shall serve until their current terms of office as
members of the Union County Commission for Higher Education would
have expired. At all times at least seven members of the commission
must be residents of Union County and two members of the commission
must be residents of Laurens County. The commissioners must be
appointed for terms of four years each and shall serve until their
successors are appointed and qualify. No member of the commission
may serve more than two consecutive four-year terms."
Time effective
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
