A Concurrent Resolution commending Jane Davis Griffin, Director of the
Lexington County Public Library System, for her many years of outstanding,
dedicated service to the citizens of Lexington County and wishing her much
happiness following her retirement.

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
COMMENDING JANE DAVIS GRIFFIN, DIRECTOR OF THE
LEXINGTON COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM, FOR HER
MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING, DEDICATED SERVICE
TO THE CITIZENS OF LEXINGTON COUNTY AND WISHING
HER MUCH HAPPINESS FOLLOWING HER RETIREMENT.
Whereas, for more than twenty years, Jane Davis Griffin has been
the driving force behind the continued expansion of the Lexington
County Public Library System; and
Whereas, Mrs. Griffin is a resident of Batesburg-Leesville; she
graduated from Converse College and received a master's degree in
library and information science from Emory University; she joined
the Lexington County library system in 1967, and in 1969 she
served as assistant library director; and
Whereas, Mrs. Griffin assumed the directorship of the library in
1971; the library system, under her leadership, thereupon embarked
upon a period of incredible growth; the system's collection has
grown from 82,612 books to over 294,000 books; branch libraries
have increased from two to nine; also, the system has gone from
forty-sixth to fifth in funding in the State; and
Whereas, Mrs. Griffin has been instrumental in the development of
county-wide programs for children and older citizens, as well as the
institution of a voter registration program offered through the
library system; she has brought the computer age to the system and
has encouraged the introduction of automated catalog and
circulation services; and
Whereas, Jane Davis Griffin is a dynamic, energetic, and dedicated
individual; she has devoted her career to the expansion and
improvement of the Lexington County Public Library System; she
is retiring this year as the system's director; and
Whereas, she is an outstanding lady, and we are greatly pleased to
have this opportunity to recognize and salute her. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, commends Jane Davis Griffin, Director of the Lexington
County Public Library System, for her many years of outstanding,
dedicated service to the citizens of Lexington County and wishes
her much happiness following her retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mrs. Griffin.
