A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF TRACY WILLIAM DORN, SENIOR, OF MCCORMICK PreviousCOUNTYNext, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 25, 2002, AND TO CONVEY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the Senate were deeply saddened by the death of Tracy William Dorn, Senior, of McCormick on December 25, 2002, at the age of fifty-two; and

Whereas, Mr. Dorn was born in McCormick and was the son of Joseph Travis Dorn, Senior, and Willie Mae Floyd Dorn. He was a direct descendent of William Burkhalter Dorn, also known as "Goldmine Billy", who was a miner in the McCormick area in 1852; and

Whereas, Mr. Dorn was a private building contractor until 1991, when he was appointed to be the new McCormick PreviousCountyNext Building Official. As the PreviouscountyNext building official, Mr. Dorn introduced and enforced state building code laws and made improvements to the building permit system that increased PreviouscountyNext revenues; and

Whereas, after serving as PreviouscountyNext building official, Mr. Dorn continued in public service as the interim PreviouscountyNext administrator for McCormick PreviousCountyNext on two separate occasions. He was a dedicated public servant and an asset to McCormick PreviousCountyNext; and

Whereas, Mr. Dorn was a member of the McCormick First Baptist Church, but had been attending the McCormick United Methodist Church. He played the tenor saxophone with several area bands and enjoyed listening to beach music and rhythm and blues. Mr. Dorn enjoyed fishing and developed the hobby from outings with his aunt, Doris Bladon and uncle, Milton Bladon; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate extend their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Tracy William Dorn, Senior. He is survived by his wife, Vicki McCracken Dorn; a son, Tracy W. Dorn, Junior; a brother, Travis Dorn, Junior; a stepbrother, Fred Baker; a sister, Judy Bowick; and two stepsisters, Barbara Coleman and Cathy Smith. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Tracy William Dorn, Senior, of McCormick PreviousCounty, Wednesday, December 25, 2002, and convey deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Tracy William Dorn, Senior, of McCormick.
