A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF MRS. VIRGINIA ZENITH MALPHRUS INGRAM, OF JASPER PreviousCOUNTYNext, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Virginia Zenith Malphrus Ingram, of Jasper PreviousCountyNext, on November 8, 2007; and

Whereas, Mrs. Ingram, called "Zenie" by family and friends, was born in Jasper PreviousCountyNext on May 16, 1940, to Charles Edward and Telie Rebecca Langford Malphrus. As a native of the area, she grew up attending the public schools of Ridgeland and married Henry Edward Ingram. To this union were born four children, sons Eddie, Ashley, Charlie, and daughter Telie; and

Whereas, she enthusiastically served her PreviouscountyNext and community in many ways, among them as executive director of the Jasper PreviousCountyNext Development Board for more than twenty years and director of the Jasper PreviousCountyNext Chamber of Commerce. Throughout her many years of service to the Jasper Soil & Water Conservation District, she served the board as secretary/treasurer and devoted much of her time and energy to maintaining and beautifying the Blue Heron Nature Trail and Butterfly Garden. The first chairperson of the Gopher Hill Festival, she served on the festival committee in various capacities for several years, and she contributed PreviouscountlessNext hours of volunteer service to numerous charities; and

Whereas, because of the high esteem in which she was held by the many citizens who appreciated her labors on their behalf, Zenie Ingram was affectionately acknowledged as the "First Lady of Jasper PreviousCountyNext." Her loyalty and devotion to her family, friends, and State were admired by all who knew her, and she will be missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mrs. Virginia Zenith Malphrus Ingram, of Jasper PreviousCounty, and extend their deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to her brother, Mr. C.E. Malphrus, for the family.
