TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ALAN CONNIE, DIRECTOR OF THE COASTAL CAROLINA UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S CROSS PreviousCOUNTRYNext AND TRACK AND FIELD PROGRAMS, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER TWENTY-EIGHT YEARS OF OUTSTANDING COACHING, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina has learned that Alan Connie will begin a well-deserved retirement after twenty-eight years as a premier director of the Coastal Carolina University women's cross PreviouscountryNext and track and field programs; and

Whereas, Alan Connie began his long and distinguished career at Coastal Carolina University prior to the 1986-1987 season when he was named head coach of the school's women's cross PreviouscountryNext program; and

Whereas, in 1993-1994, he launched the women's outdoor track and field program, and 1998 saw the commencement of the women's indoor track and field program; and

Whereas, Coach Connie has won a combined total of twenty-eight Big South Conference Championships for women's cross PreviouscountryNext and women's indoor and outdoor track and field; and

Whereas, he has been honored thirty-three times as the Big South Conference Coach of the Year, thirteen times as the Big South Cross PreviousCountryNext Coach of the Year, ten times as the Big South Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year, and ten times as the Big South Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year; and

Whereas, in 2004, Coach Connie was named the Southeast Region Coach of the Year for Indoor Track and Field; and

Whereas, four times he has taken Coastal Carolina to a triple crown as Big South Conference champions in cross PreviouscountryNext, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field, for the 2003-2004 season, 2005-2006 season, 2008-2009 season, and the current 2013-2014 season, his final year of coaching; and

Whereas, Coach Connie has coached one student-athlete who competed in the Olympics, twelve who won All-American honors, two in cross PreviouscountryNext and ten in track and field, and twelve who won Penn Relay medals, the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States; and

Whereas, two hundred forty-six Big South event champions have benefitted from his skilled coaching, ninety-one in indoor track and field and one hundred fifty-five in outdoor track and field; and

Whereas, altogether Coach Connie coached five hundred forty-three indoor and outdoor track and field All-Big South Conference selections; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are grateful for the years of unparalleled dedication that Alan Connie has devoted to the Coastal Carolina University women's cross PreviouscountryNext and track and field programs and wish him many years of enjoyment in his well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Alan Connie, director of the Coastal Carolina University women's cross Previouscountry and track and field programs, upon the occasion of his retirement after twenty-eight years of outstanding coaching, and wish him continued success and happiness in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Alan Connie.
