A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MARIE G. ADAMS, FORMER MEMBER OF THE EDGEFIELD PreviousCOUNTYNext VOTER REGISTRATION AND ELECTION COMMISSION, FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED AND OUTSTANDING SERVICE AND TO WISH HER MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

Whereas, for over three decades, the Edgefield PreviousCountyNext Voter Registration and Election Commission enjoyed the benefit of the dedication, experience, and leadership of Marie G. Adams, who retired after more than thirty years of service; and

Whereas, born to Willie D. and Lillie Gordon of Edgefield PreviousCountyNext, Marie Adams entered this world on October 30, 1928, and was one of a large family; and

Whereas, in preparation for her life's work, Marie attended Bettis Junior College in Trenton; Benedict College in Columbia, where she earned a bachelor's degree in education; and South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, where she earned a master's degree in education; and

Whereas, from 1949 to 1986, she served as a teacher in the Edgefield PreviousCountyNext public school system. In addition to her more than thirty years of service on the Edgefield PreviousCountyNext Voter Registration and Election Commission, she served for many years as a part-time clerk with the Edgefield PreviousCountyNext Voter Registration and Election Office, beginning in 1974 and concluding in 2012; and

Whereas, because Marie Adams believes all citizens should be actively involved in their communities, she served as secretary of the Democratic Party and is a member of the NAACP. A woman of faith, she serves her God at Pleasant Lane Baptist Church (PLBC), where she sings with the PLBC Senior Choir; and

Whereas, Marie Adams' reputation for wisdom was proven true in her work with the Edgefield PreviousCountyNext Voter Registration and Election Commission, where she served with great commitment and talent and won the respect of her fellow board members; and

Whereas, the Senate, grateful for Marie Adams' decades of faithfulness in serving the people of South Carolina, takes great pleasure in commending her for her contributions to this great State, especially in Edgefield PreviousCountyNext. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Marie G. Adams, former member of the Edgefield PreviousCounty Voter Registration and Election Commission, for her many years of dedicated and outstanding service and wish her much happiness and fulfillment in the days ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Marie G. Adams.
