S*1053 Concurrent Resolution, By Bryan
A Concurrent Resolution to express the deepest sympathy of the members of the
General Assembly to the family and many friends of Mr. Cecil Garrett, of
Laurens, a prominent civic leader and county treasurer, upon his death.
01/23/96 Senate Introduced, adopted, sent to House SJ-11
01/24/96 House Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence HJ-9
A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS
OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY AND
MANY FRIENDS OF MR. CECIL GARRETT, OF LAURENS, A
PROMINENT CIVIC LEADER AND COUNTY TREASURER,
UPON HIS DEATH.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are deeply
saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Cecil Garrett, of Laurens, on
Tuesday, January 9, 1996, at the age of sixty-four; and
Whereas, he was a native of Laurens County and a loving husband
and father to his wife and children; and
Whereas, he was a devoted public servant who prudently oversaw
taxpayer money for nine years as Laurens County Treasurer; and
Whereas, he was a respected civic leader serving as a Director for
the Laurens County Mental Retardation Board and the Laurens
County Livestock Association, President of the Laurens County
Rotary Club, and thirty-five years of service as Treasurer of the
Laurens County Shrine Club; and
Whereas, he was admired and loved by countless individuals for his
humor, love, and service for the community and state, and his kind
heart and altruistic spirit; and
Whereas, seldom has a person contributed to his community and
state as did this outstanding South Carolinian. He was well known
and highly regarded in his community; and
Whereas, his death represents a tremendous loss to the Laurens
community, and in truth, the State of South Carolina, and we want
the members of his family and many friends to know that they are
in our uppermost thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, express profound sorrow at the death of Mr. Cecil
Garrett, of Laurens, and extends the deepest sympathy to the
members of his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mr. Garrett's family.
