A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 25-11-40, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE APPOINTMENT OF A PreviousCOUNTYNext VETERANS AFFAIRS OFFICER, SO AS TO REQUIRE HIM TO BE A VETERAN.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Section 25-11-40 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 181 of 1993, is amended to read:

"Section 25-11-40. (A) For the purpose of this section `veteran' means any ex-service citizen who was discharged under other than dishonorable conditions and who served in any branch of the military or naval service of the United States.

(B) Subject to the recommendation of a majority of the Senators representing the PreviouscountyNext and a majority of the House members representing the PreviouscountyNext, the Director of the Division of Veterans' Affairs shall appoint a PreviouscountyNext veterans affairs officer for each PreviouscountyNext in the State who must be a veteran, whose terms term of office shall begin begins July first of each odd-numbered year and shall continue continues for a term of two years and until their successors shall be are appointed. Any such A PreviouscountyNext veterans affairs officer shall be is subject to removal at any time by a majority of the Senators representing the PreviouscountyNext and a majority of the House members representing the Previouscounty."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
