A SENATE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE DEEP LOSS OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND ITS VITAL AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITY TO THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF ROBERT PreviousEDWARDNext CONNELLY, SR., OF ALLENDALE COUNTY WHO DIED SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2004.

Whereas, Robert PreviousEdwardNext Connelly, Sr., successful farmer and community leader of Allendale County, died on Saturday, February 21, 2004; and

Whereas, the son of the late John Frank Connelly and Estell Harter Connelly, he was born in Jennys in Allendale County where he attended Allendale County Schools; and

Whereas, Mr. Connelly fought at the Battle of the Bulge under General Patton while a staff sergeant in World War II; and

Whereas, upon his return to his home in Allendale County after the war, he and his wife of sixty-one years, Elma Eugenia Lazar Connelly, operated a farm in the Bethel Community; and

Whereas, the family farm produced award winning commodity yields due to the successful farming methods of Mr. Connelly and all three of his children, their spouses, and now several grandchildren; and

Whereas, this passionate advocate for farming on the local, state, and national levels and his family have been recognized as Master Farm Family of South Carolina by Clemson University and Progressive Farmer magazine; and

Whereas, he was President of the Allendale County Farm Bureau for over thirty-five years and was a director of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation; and

Whereas, Mr. Connelly contributed to his community by serving as Magistrate for Sycamore Township for many years and on the Allendale County Board of Education for over twenty years, including several terms as Chairman, and was a life-long member and leader of Bethel Baptist Church near Sycamore. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express the deep loss of the State of South Carolina and its vital agricultural community to the friends and family of Robert PreviousEdward Connelly, Sr., of Allendale County who died Saturday, February 21, 2004.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to

his wife, Mrs. Elma Eugenia Lazar Connelly.
