A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO CONGRATULATE THE LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL WILDCATS
BOYS BASEBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 1999 CLASS AAAA STATE BASEBALL
 CHAMPIONSHIP.

06/01/99 House Introduced, adopted, sent to Senate HJ-9
06/01/99 Senate Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence SJ-18

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL WILDCATS BOYS BASEBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 1999 CLASS AAAA STATE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, people in the town of Lexington and the surrounding community looked forward to the 1999 baseball season for Lexington High School with great expectations because the team had been ranked as the number 18 team in the nation by a preseason USA Today poll; and

Whereas, Coach Tommy Williams has acknowledged this notoriety put extra pressure on the team to prove the ranking was accurate; and

Whereas, the team lived up to the preseason ranking and proved it was the best in South Carolina by capping an excellent season with an overall record of 32-3 by defeating a fine James Island team in the three-game championship series 2-1; in the final game of the series Lexington exploded to a 7-0 lead by the end of the second inning and won the game by 12-2; and

Whereas, winning this championship caps a stellar decade for Lexington baseball because the 1999 championship is the third AAAA championship in the decade for the Wildcats as they won it previously in 1992 and 1994; in addition the Lexington team won regional championships in 1991, 1993, 1995, and this year; and

Whereas, Coach Williams achieved his third state championship with this win and, in this season also, he coached his three hundredth win; and

Whereas, the administration and athletic department at Lexington High School are extremely important to Coach Williams and this exciting program; they are Principal Allan Whitacre, Athletic Director Jimmy Satterfield, Assistant Athletic Director Shay Rollins, Assistant Baseball Coaches Jonny Thompson, Tommy Mishoe, Shawn Torbett, and Jason Williams, and Trainer Paul Padgett; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly want to recognize the hard work, dedication, ability, and enthusiasm of all the members of the Lexington High School Wildcats baseball team; the members are Artie Catoe, Michael Mathias, Todd Kirkland, Chad Thomas, Aaron Rawl, Britt Bearden, Chad McMurray, Ricky Glass, Jay McCowan, Banks Faulkner, Tony Hanks, James Page, Braden Stanis, Derek Metts, Adam Bedenbaugh, Benjamin Ryan, Jason Sturkie, Brandon Jeffcoat, Tommy Langdale, Bert Rollins, and Duane Chavis. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Lexington High School Wildcats boys baseball team for winning the 1999 Class AAAA State Baseball Championship.

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be forwarded to Principal Allan Whitacre, Athletic Director Jimmy Satterfield, and Coach Tommy Williams of Lexington High School.
