A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE CLINTON HIGH SCHOOL RED DEVILS MEN'S TENNIS TEAM AND HEAD COACH, CLOVIS SIMMONS, ON CAPTURING THE 2000 CLASS AAA STATE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the Clinton High School Red Devils Men's Tennis Team avenged its 1999 state championship loss to Myrtle Beach High School by defeating Myrtle Beach High School 6-0 to capture the 2000 Class AAA State Tennis Championship; and

Whereas, the Red Devils 1999 season was marred by the loss of teammate Kevin Adams who died from injuries suffered in an automobile accident; and

Whereas, the team dedicated the 2000 season to Kevin and vowed to win the state championship to honor his memory; and

Whereas, the Red Devils completed an undefeated season and only met one serious challenge which occurred when they defeated Fort Mill High School 4-2 to win the Upperstate Championship in a hard fought match; and

Whereas, the excellent coaching of Head Coach, Clovis Simmons, has been critical to the Red Devils success; and

Whereas, the Clinton High School Red Devils Men's Tennis Team for 1999-2000 included Bill Brehmer, Allen Simmons, Jeffrey Young, Philip McMurray, Travis Taylor, Tyler Blind, Andy Hunt, David Smunk, Phillip Hamilton, and Kevin Lee Makocy; and

Whereas, winning the state championship is a true testimony to the talent and desire for excellence of the players, coaches, and school officials of Clinton High School; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly would like to take this opportunity to publicly recognize the accomplishments of the Clinton High School Red Devils Men's Tennis Team. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Clinton High School Red Devils Men's Tennis Team and Head Coach, Clovis Simmons, on capturing the Class AAA State Tennis Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach, Clovis Simmons.
