A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEMORATE THE CLARENDON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL UPON THE CELEBRATION OF ITS FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY AND TO WISH THE HOSPITAL, ITS PAST AND PRESENT BOARD MEMBERS, PHYSICIANS, NURSES, ADMINISTRATION, AND STAFF MANY MORE YEARS OF SUCCESS IN CARING FOR THE PEOPLE OF CLARENDON COUNTY.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina praise the Clarendon Memorial Hospital for its fifty years of caring for the Clarendon County community; and

Whereas, Clarendon Memorial Hospital opened April 15, 1951, debt free. One third of the funds came from the Hill Burton Congressional Act and the rest, with the support of Senator James Hugh McFadden, were appropriated by the South Carolina Legislature; and

Whereas, the original Board of Trustees in 1951 was: F. E. DuBose, B. G. Alderman, R. B. Padgett, E. A. Stone, and Mrs. T. G. Mason; and

Whereas, Clarendon voters approved a bond referendum in 1988 to renovate the hospital. It is now a state-of-the-art facility with modern technology; and

Whereas, over the years, Clarendon Memorial Hospital has expanded into a healthcare system with the Cypress Center for Health and Wellness, the Zone, four nursing homes, cardiac rehabilitation, home health, and a retail pharmacy. Plans for an assisted living facility are currently underway; and

Whereas, one thing that has remained constant from Harry M. Weir, the first hospital administrator, to the current leadership under Edward R. Frye, is the dedication and commitment of Clarendon Memorial's employees. This devotion enabled the staff to handle the more than twenty thousand patients who came through the doors of the emergency room last year; and

Whereas, the hospital's vision is "to become a model, rural healthcare system by providing comprehensive primary health services in a modern facility, with a professional staff, dedicated to quality, and known for their kindness and sensitivity to the needs of the patients and community"; and

Whereas, the current Board of Trustees are: Herb Hilliard, Dr. Raymond Dominici, Raymond Clark, Eddie Stuckey, Dorothy Wilder, Donald L. Ellis, Josephine B. (Jonnie) Calvert, Dr. Robert (Bobby) Ridgeway III, and Connie James Dennis; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives honor the Clarendon Memorial Hospital for its dedication to the quality of health care given to the people of Clarendon County for the past fifty years and its commitment to the continuation of this hospital. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commemorate the Clarendon Memorial Hospital upon the celebration if its fiftieth anniversary and wish the hospital, its physicians, nurses, administration, and staff many more years of success in caring for the people of Clarendon County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Jeffrey Black, Public Affairs Director, Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
